I am very excited to be joining BACA this winter! I’ll be working with our psychiatrists and the dynamic interdisciplinary team in the Intensive Outpatient Program.
I’m originally from the East Coast, but have lived in the Bay Area for 13 years and can’t imagine living anywhere else. I’m a nurse practitioner, having completed my training at UCSF and graduating in 2013. I work with adults at a primary care community clinic in East Oakland as well as a drop-in mental health clinic in the SOMA neighborhood of San Francisco. I’m here at BACA this winter and spring as part of my post-master’s psychiatric training with children and adolescents. After completing my program at UCSF, I hope to continue working both in primary and mental health care with patients across the lifespan.
Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, I spent 10 years working in community health in San Francisco serving mainly homeless and marginally housed individuals and families in many capacities. I worked as a bilingual case manager, school-based health educator, group facilitator, SF Department of Public Health council member, and program director before taking the leap and becoming a registered nurse, and later a nurse practitioner. As an RN, I worked at San Francisco General Hospital in acute psychiatry for 3 years. My training in primary care medicine led me to experiences working with veterans at the VA hospital in San Francisco, with individuals living with HIV, and the LGBTQ community including those transitioning on hormone replacement therapy. Throughout my professional experiences, I have come to understand how important access to robust mental health care is to both an individuals’ capacity to care for one’s self and to thrive. This is particularly important for young people as they learn and grow in an increasingly complicated world. Thus, I have chosen to focus the bulk of my training on this unique population.
When I am not wearing my nurse practitioner hat, I love getting into the wilderness, surfing, watching good films, cooking big dinners for my friends and loved ones, and hitting the dance floor as often as I can.
